The Philanthropy 50 is a list of the wealthiest Americans who donate the most to charitable causes. Most of the nation's richest contributors have generally resorted to old standbys, throwing out substantial amounts to colleges, medicine, and their own foundations.

Many fresh faces are donating to organizations and locations that don't receive the recognition they deserve. Even by his own standards, Austin Russell, a 26-year-old internet entrepreneur, is making a name for himself in the philanthropic arena. His $70 million gift to the Central Florida Foundation will nearly double the community foundation’s assets.
